Is SYQEL Optimized To a Specific Browser?
The web app at vj.syqel.com works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer. We recommend Chrome or Edge, because they also support MIDI controllers.
For the smoothest show, use SYQEL Desktop for Mac or Windows. It can also hear music playing on your computer, send your visuals to OBS or over NDI, record video, and play offline. The browser can’t do those things.
Get the best performance in a browser
- Keep graphics acceleration on. SYQEL draws its visuals with your graphics card. In Chrome, go to Settings › System and turn on Use graphics acceleration when available, then relaunch Chrome. Edge has the same setting under Settings › System and performance.
- Close what you don’t need. Other tabs, video calls and games compete for the same graphics card.
- Lower the frame rate on an older computer. In SYQEL, open Settings › Playback and set Target FPS to 60 or 30.
- Keep your browser up to date.
MIDI controllers
To use a controller in the browser, open Settings › Hotkeys & MIDI and click Connect MIDI Device, then allow access when the browser asks. This needs a browser with Web MIDI, such as Chrome or Edge. Safari can’t connect MIDI controllers. See Default keyboard shortcuts for the keys that work everywhere.
